It's this time of year that my heart hearkens back to Celtic lands and the old ways. Perhaps it is the echo of Celtic past lives ringing in my ears.
There is a term used by the Irish that fits the unique relationship of one soul to another: anam cara. It means literally "soul friend," and it refers to the relationship in which one feels completely understood and accepted by another soul. The Irish believe that one's aura becomes melded with the aura of the soul friend and the two souls become uniquely bonded. It reminds me in many ways of the Twin Soul relationship.
I think that the late Irish poet John O'Donahue said it best: "You are joined in an ancient and eternal union with humanity that cuts across all barriers of time, convention, philosophy, and definition. When you are blessed with an anam cara, the Irish believe that you have arrived at that most sacred place: home."
